People I meet often ask why I take photographs with my iPhone rather than a ‘traditional’ camera like most photographers in business. They are intrigued by the idea and quiz me on whether it can work to tell their business story.
We talk about photographs being a big part of marketing and how it should be a fun part too, but for some businesses its just a hassle and a stress.
- Do they have a limited budget that doesn’t stretch to a photographer and so take their own photographs? We then talk about whether they are happy with them or just ‘making do’?
- Are they using stock images that are maybe looking too corporate and so over-selling who and what they are?
- Are they happy using stock images for their general social media posts but want something exclusive for their website?
- Are they wanting to get their business story out there but just not sure where to start?
These are all things that I can help with.
Lets look at the options we’ve got when it comes to photographs for our business.
The Stock Photos Option
These are images sold, or offered for free, online. You won’t ever have exclusive use of them, but you’re given a licence to use them.
Time flies when you are trawling through hundreds of photos, you can lose an hour easily, but finding the perfect one is what its all about and if its free then yippee! Negatives though are that that perfect image may cost a little more than you had budgeted for, is maybe being used by one of your competitors or worse still a business that does something completely different, which can makes things very confusing!
Stock photography is like clothing you buy off the rack in a shop. No matter how much you love it when you buy it, you won’t be the only person wearing that design. You might not be bothered most of the time but every now and then, for a special occasion, you want to stand out with something that is just yours.
Most large companies avoid them like the plague, but then they’re lucky to have the big budgets for a photographer to create something just for them.

Traditional Photographers Option
Hiring a photographer with the lovely studio, who will arrange a suitable venue or who can set up in your workplace is a magical thing to be able to do. It can result in a portfolio of bespoke images that you will own, that is YOU and that no-one else can use. However, it can cost hundreds of pounds which for many small business is out of the question.

The Me Option!
I do the same as the traditional photographer but on a much smaller scale – a bespoke photoshoot never the less. Just me, you, your business and my phone camera. Working together we can create bespoke images to be used by you and no-one else!
At JMH Photostories my photos are uncomplicated, honest, not photoshopped and only slightly edited.
I love what I do. I work with small businesses, helping them tell their business story through photographs, adding humour, personality and emotion to tell their customers who and what they are. I meet interesting, amazing people, get to know their businesses and play a small part in their success.
I am affordable, my cost for an hour photo shoot is £45 and I can work in any space, inside or out, all I need is my phone and a brief from you. I can work in an office, catching a business at work, or, I can help you to create an ‘office’ space. I can bring props if you want and create bespoke images for you to use across your social media platforms, on your website and in print.
I sort through the images and send the best to a DropBox file, with or without text so that you can add different content with the image time after time. I do not charge for individual photos, you get ALL the photos I take.
Have I answered the questions of whether a phone photographer can work for your business? I hope so. If I haven’t drop me a message.
Bye for now,
